What it is
Urinary incontinence
Urinary incontinence is any leaking of urine you didn’t mean to happen. The most common kind for active women is stress incontinence: pressure from a cough, sneeze, jump or lift pushes past the muscles and tissues that keep the urethra closed. Urge incontinence is a sudden, strong need to go that’s hard to hold off. Many women have a mix of both.
Bladder leakage is one of the most common reasons women see a pelvic floor physical therapist, at every age, and it very often improves.

In Katrina’s words
At Evertide, urinary incontinence is not a lecture about doing more Kegels in the carpool line. We look at how your pelvic floor coordinates with breath, hips, and the loads you actually care about—miles on the trail, barbell work, chasing kids on the beach.
Many active women in Kitsap assume leakage is the price of motherhood or menopause. Often it is a coordination and pressure-management problem we can train—not a character flaw and not a forever sentence.
If you have new bleeding, burning, or symptoms that feel like a UTI that will not clear, we will help you get to the right clinician first. Pelvic PT is a strong next step when you are cleared for musculoskeletal care.

Common questions
FAQs
Do I need to stop running while we work on leakage?
Not always. We usually modify load while we build capacity, then progress you back toward the distances and terrain you love—with a plan, not a ban.
Are Kegels the whole answer?
Sometimes strengthening helps; sometimes the issue is timing, tension, or how you brace with your core and hips. We test what your body actually needs.
Is this only a postpartum problem?
No. We see leakage across life stages—perimenopause, heavy lifting seasons, and athletes who never had kids but still leak on impact.
