What it is

Menopause

Menopause is the point 12 months after your last period; everything after is postmenopause. With less estrogen, the tissues of the vagina, vulva and urinary tract can become thinner, drier and less elastic. Doctors call this genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM). Muscle and bone also weaken faster without training. Together these can bring leaking, urgency, prolapse symptoms and painful sex. All of them are common, and all are treatable.

Most women notice some of these changes after menopause. Leaking and painful sex are common, not inevitable.

In Katrina’s words

After menopause, lower estrogen can affect bladder control, vaginal and vulvar tissues, and how well your pelvic floor supports you on hills, in the gym, and in the bedroom. These changes are common—but leakage, prolapse symptoms, and painful sex are not something you have to accept.

We address them with pelvic floor PT, strength training, and education. Hormone or vaginal estrogen may be beneficial which is why, with your permission, we collaborate with your medical provider.

You do not have to trade hiking for pads or avoid intimacy without answers. We build capacity and confidence for the adventures you still have planned.
